Descrição
The online course “Introduction to Brazilian Literature” was designed to aid students who may not be familiar with Brazilian literature, culture, and/or history in acquiring tools to critically reflect upon Brazilian literary productions and practices of the nineteenth century. Students will be introduced to a variety of literary texts, iconographic materials, and episodes in Brazilian history, and will be encouraged to think in an interdisciplinary manner about the consolidation of the Brazilian nation-state.
The course is free, open for all, and will be delivered in English via distance learning, enabling non-Portuguese speakers to be acquainted with Brazilian culture and history. Certificates will be offered upon course completion. Spaces are limited.
This course will be taught by Giovanna Gobbi, a Ph.D. candidate in Brazilian Literature at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), a Fulbright Program alumna, and a scholar-in-residence at the Brasiliana Guita and José Mindlin Library (BBM-USP). Her research interests lie in 19th-century Latin American literatures, nation-building narratives, indigenous and Afro-Latin American representation, ecocriticism, and the visual arts.
