The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia ( ) invites applications for the position of Academic Professional and Portuguese Language Coordinator, to begin August 1, 2021. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 course load in Portuguese language and Luso-Brazilian culture, literature and/or linguistics; coordinate multiple sections of first, second, and third year Portuguese courses; supervise graduate Teaching Assistants; and contribute to the promotion and goals of the Portuguese Flagship Program ( This is a nine-month position, with the possibility of a summer appointment and stipend, based on program needs.

Position Requirements:

—Ph.D. (in hand by start date) either in Portuguese Studies, Luso-Brazilian Studies, or in Second Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, or a related field with an emphasis in Portuguese.
—Two years of experience teaching college level Portuguese required.

Native or near-native fluency in both Portuguese and English in addition to a record of teaching excellence. Strong commitment to language pedagogy, teaching supervision/mentorship, effective innovation with technology, curriculum development, and understanding of proficiency-based instruction and assessment.

This position will serve as supervisor for the undergraduate Portuguese language program. Primary job duties will include supervision of the MA and PhD students teaching 1000- and 2000-level PORT classes, and creating the PORT schedule each semester.
